3D Secure

Market.com uses 3D Secure, a real-time cardholder authentication at the time of purchase, so merchants are assured that the card issuer bank believes that it is the legitimate cardholder who is using the card to make the purchase. If the cardholder later denies the transaction, it is a matter for the issuer bank and the cardholder to resolve with minimal involvement from the merchant's side.

With 3D Secure you may substantially reduce your rates of fraudulent transactions and chargebacks, while increasing cardholder confidence and sales, with minimal impact on your existing checkout process.

Visa branded this program as Verified by Visa and MasterCard implemented a program called MasterCard SecureCode.

Verified By Visa: A Visa Internet payment authentication system that validates a cardholder's ownership of an account in real-time during an online payment transaction. When the cardholder clicks "Buy" at the checkout page of a participating merchant web site, a Verified by Visa screen automatically appears on the cardholder's desktop. The cardholder enters a password that allows the card issuer to verify his or her identity.

MasterCard SecureCode: A MasterCard authentication program implemented to reduce fraudulent purchases by verifying purchaser identity during online transactions. MasterCard SecureCode accommodates MasterCard credit and debit cards, including Maestro and SOLO.
